Adoption Overview $400

Una

Una is a mare who was collected as a starving free roaming horse in February of 2023. At the time she had a yearling and two year old following her that she was keeping safe. Una was not in foal upon arrival, but when her herdmates gave birth in KHS care, Una was pastured nearby and became obsessed with the foals in the neighboring pastures and clearly thought she needed to care for babies too. We happened to have an orphaned foal come in around the same time, and Una was able to be his surrogate mom through the process of hormone induced lactation.

She has been a great mom and good provider to her babies, and now she needs a safe home of her own. She could be an excellent babysitter for foals, could likely be a nurse mare again, or could be a wonderful companion to another lonely horse. Una came to us blind in one eye, but that hasn't stopped her ability to be an amazing mom. She has been saddled once at KHS but didn't show much indication if she was broke to ride or not. She could also enter training because it's never too late to teach an "old dog new tricks". If you'd like more info about Una please reach out to us about adopting!
