Holly

Holly is a beautiful gaited mare, foaled in approximately 2009/2010. She stands about 15.2HH. We believe that she experienced some trauma in her past as she has some physical and mental scars. She can be anxious; sometimes, Holly weaves in her stall, and she doesn’t like to be isolated from other horses. She has made great strides since she arrived at the rescue in March 2021, but she still has her moments of nervousness. She’s very gentle and kind and is eager to please, but she doesn’t always understand what’s being asked of her. Holly has had a few sessions with professional trainer Kris Kokal, and his assessment is that she may have been pulled away from her mother too early to learn “horse language.” She stands quietly for the farrier and dentist. She hasn’t been ridden at the rescue, so we haven’t assessed her training or soundness for riding. She is wonderful on the lead. Holly is sensitive. She needs a person who’s patient, gentle, and kind, someone who won’t rush her desensitization and training. She also needs to be with other horses. She tends to be at the bottom of the hierarchy. She isn’t assertive in a herd, and she gets along well with other horses.
