Meet Cloud! This flea-bitten grey Arabian mare came to Longmeadow in June of 2021. She was several hundred pounds under weight and covered in lice. While Cloud had some minor knowledge of handling skills, it was clear she had several core skills missing. Our volunteer ground work team has spent countless hours working towards creating a solid foundation on the ground. Cloud still requires more time with an experienced handler to continue her training at this time. She is still learning how to respectfully pick up her feet for the farrier without need of sedation.
We were not surprised to find that Cloud was also not trained under saddle. She will require professional training to begin this process, but likely has many more months of ground work before she is started under saddle. This mare has a challenging exterior, but is a huge softy when it comes to cuddles and treats. Cloud gets along well with any mare, but prefers laid back geldings.
