Adoption Overview $1,000

Butterball

Butterball is a mare who was collected as a free roaming feral horse when locals to her ranging area were concerned that her leg might be broken. She was hopping around and laying down excessively for a couple of weeks when we were called to go catch her and get her seen by a vet.

Butterball was caught and thankfully during her vet exam it was determined that her lameness was due to a temporary abscess. The abscess has since ruptured releasing all of the pressure, and she is feeling much better. Butterball arrived only "food tame" (comes to food and has taken food from visiting people when offered as a free roaming horse) but she she is now with a trainer and learning all the great things about being a domesticated horse. She's learning to pick up her feet for a farrier, doing basic groundwork, and learning to be tacked up with a saddle. Butterball is currently still in training and while she's making excellent progress, she wouldn't be available to beginner or intermediate adopters at this time because she is still very green to handling. If you are a confident horseperson with training experience or someone willing to work with a trainer to keep Butterball on track, let us know if you are interested in adopting her. Otherwise stay tuned for updates as Butterball learns more about domesticated life and how to be a good equine citizen.
